Sometimes it appears coming from the golden
ear fields, sharp and clean in the shadow of the stone, square houses not so high and, on
top, the stamp of the old castle. Pietraperzia in an afternoon of middle summer, the
square with its shadows and the church which is drowing, on the bottom, the perspective,
narrow roads coming up between stone walls, sharp stone thath drows doors and windows, and
oldest stone softened by age which creates legendary images to substain balconies with
iron railings. Then to walk in the quiet of the narrow streets, beyond Saint Mary's of
Jesus church, further the square with its other bell tower, up to the Matrice, and facing
it, the square stones of Governor's palace with its fabolous stone's images wich hold up
the balcony, and then to go up again, till the moment on top you have the sky only, and
far the wide open landscape - from the Belvedere - very far Caltanissetta and near the
castle.
Poor few stones remaining, wall's fragments
and towers' memories, as a finger trough the sky, rememberance now impossible to understand of
past rich age, that keeps a silent dignity That castle, once one of the biggest of Sicily
- more than twelve thousand covered meters square - whith its history more and more
bigger, norman barons' house before, in the ninetinth century jail, legends of treasures
and ghosts and caves where you can suddenly disappear. No big things are reamaining, but
aniway the tower continues dominating all the valleys around. Pietraperzia: for arabs and
greeks the same meaning, pierced stone.
And you can see it in the caverns, in the tombs of ancient people
- caulonians, sicanians and siculi - digged in that stone, where not so longer sombody
built the rooms of his house. Pietraperzia today: never has been lost the true traditions.
There is a folk group, the big celebrations of the Saint Thursday, the care of manteining
all wich can be saved from the past, a bell tower or a church or an old masseria. Because
Pietraperzia is also nature. For that reason in the town has been organized small cultural
and naturalistic tours - even by byke - to discover the real meaning of the country. No
one of inhabitants of Pietraperzia doesn't know how important are the celebration of their
memory, of their origins. At least, Pietraperzia: a holy place, a place to discover it.
